Rented an apartment, good choices for temporary housing due to influx of people coming to duke for rotations. Use duke housing website.
Describe types of conditions or diagnoses, as well as age ranges exposed to during this fieldwork.
Orthopedic dx, abdominal sx
What types of assessments and interventions were used?
Assistance level, MMT, observation
ADL training, patient and family education, gadget training
What are your thoughts on the site's environment for the employees and students? (Please consider: organization, collaboration, mentoring, learning opportunities)
Great. Ton of students, organized. Huge teaching hospital, everybody, RN, MD's, PT's, readily available to assist/answer questions.
Please comment on personality traits and/or preparation that would facilitate success at this site.
Ready to learn and become independent in a fast pace environment. You will have suppurt, but you will be alone with medically unstable patients in their rooms for evaluation and intervention. Extremely flexible. And ready to work as a memeber of a team.

Why did you choose this fieldwork?
Not too far from home, heard it was a good one from students before me

Outpatient, Clinic, Adult Neuro
Please describe your living and commuting situation. (Was accomodation offered? Public transportation or parking offered? Please include price paid, location and conditions.)
Parking offered at 7 dollars a month. Can use duke university housing list to find a place to live. Public transportation is available through the university and the city but I never used it.

CVA, parkinsons, ALS, MDA, cognitive impairment, brain tumor, TBI, SCI
What types of assessments and interventions were used?
Assessments: MMT, 9 hole peg, grip, pinch, Short Blessed, Jebson Hand Function, Montreal Cognitive, Trail Making, Optec Rehab Vision screen, Vericom Reaction Time testing as part of Clinical Driving Screen, MVPT
Interventions: saebo, ADL/IADL, theraband/putty/weights, balance training, functional reach, therapeutic activity, Wii, etc.
What are your thoughts on the site's environment for the employees and students? (Please consider: organization, collaboration, mentoring, learning opportunities)
Amazing. Can't beat this site for that. Therapists put your learning first, and all therapists, members of care team collaborate.

flexibility is most important. Organized.
